Reviews

I found tutorials are more beneficial in training your communication skill than understanding the marketing contents themselves. The effort in both assignments was not paid off as they are extremely subjective. Overall, Simon seemed to encourage you to explore the marketing world beyond the lecture notes. So be open-minded and try to learn more concepts not listed in the lectures notes. Tip: Exams are challenging but if you are more exam-oriented, you will be fine.

Good insight to Marketing

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

Simon is the greatest lecturer you will come across at the University. His lectures were always interesting and engaging. I found tutorials quite boring and a little too rigid. Assignments were super challenging, which was good at times but also sometimes overwhelming. Overall, I really enjoyed this subject! Tip: don’t buy the textbook.

Good basis for marketing

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2016

The lectures and tutorials are world class in my opinion, and very compelling. A lot of concepts can be applied to real life. The workload is also quite light. However even though I scored 45 in VCE English and really loved the subject content, my essays were marked lowly. Hard to H1 in I reckon but easy to enjoy otherwise.

My favourite course. Real-life examples always integrated so I learned a lot on how to actually implement the ideas I learnt. Excellent lectures.

Took this subject as my breadth in my first year. Perhaps my mind can't really work on Business subjects, so I find this subject pretty challenging, especially for the final exam. The essay questions are a bit tricky, I expected it to be more straightforward. Assignments are okay though, but for the group assignment make sure you don't get yourself shitty group mates or you'll end up with a really bad grade for it. I do enjoy tutorials but not lectures. As it's a 2-hour morning lecture, I find myself dozing off more than paying attention in class. Professor Simon is a funny lecturer but the way he explains concepts don't really help with my understanding.

Outdated tutorials and assignments that haven't changed from year to year (assignment focuses on a brand that no longer exists). Needs a refresh, but otherwise Simon is an excellent lecturer. Hard to get an H1 in.

I loved Simon's lectures, he was not only funny but also great at linking marketing concepts with the real examples and applications of concepts. I struggled with writing a marketing report as its format was different from other essay writing styles. But I found this subject enjoyable and helpful even as a breadth.

Simon is a wonderful lecturer. Tutor are helpful too in assisting the understanding regarding the theories. The assignments and final exam questions are adequately adjusted to assess students understanding and would not be very hard to score if you understand each concept very well.
