Quite interesting materials, the topics were similar to high school chemistry. Tutors in the chemistry learning centre were very helpful and nice. Overall, if you put in the work to understand the basic topics, you’ll do well for the exam

This subject consists of three main topics, each lasting four weeks: organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry. Personally, I found the organic chemistry to be a bit boring, but the overall trends were kind of interesting when considered from a physics point of view. The inorganic chemistry was pretty basic. The physical chemistry was my favourite - the thermodynamics stuff has been useful to me many times in later subjects. (P.S. I took this subject in semester 1, 2012, but that doesn't appear in the drop-down menu, so I'll select semester 1, 2019, which is the last time I marked exams for this subject.)

Good subject to choose to get into the Uni lifestyle.

although its repetitive, its quite difficult being the first uni subject in the course. will recommend putting in extra effort even when you don't feel like it warrants any. Lecturers and tutors are very understanding and helpful though. Make the most of the opportunities.

Definitely a difficult subject, but if you put in the work you will reap the rewards. Most of it is an extension of high school chemistry, so if you have a solid foundation of concepts (molarity, gas laws, ptable trends, etc.) it is definitely an advantage. However, there is also some new stuff in there that takes time to understand (e.g. organic ring-flips, VSEPR). Tutes can be incredibly helpful depending on your tutor, and the pracs can be quite interesting (though stressful). Exam was very fair. In my opinion, as long as you keep up with the content and practice things you're not confident with early on, your mark will reflect your preparation.

Difficult but fair subject. Plenty of resources provided, but the content itself can be quite challenging. When undertaking this subject, it is important to attempt to understand concepts from the very beginning, and not attempt to cram all study into the SWOTVAC period. Many fail this subject or do poorly because preparation was inadequate. Overall, very fair but challenging, whilst also being quite fascinating in patches.

The lectures were fine. To get a good mark, you should proactively read the materials before and after the lecture. Some lectures will not be recorded so please try as hard as you can to attend the lecture. The content in this subject is the MOST IMPORTANT BASE for level 2 and 3 subjects if you are majoring in chemistry, chemical system.

The lectures were fine. The thing you need to get used it the constant change of the lecturers. This could be good or bad. Good as some lecturers give the lectures that they are specialized in. However, some lecturers give lectures that they aren't. Other than that, the practicals might seem complicated on paper however, they are pretty easy if you do the readings. If you have problems there are tutors that can help you before the pracs. They are very useful. The time they give for the online quizzes are decent however, they are usually harder than then the examples given in lectures. BE SURE TO DO CHEMCAL BEFORE THE QUIZZES! They do take similar questions from the CHEMCAL. The tutorials are good depending on your tutor. The tutes can be quite boring so be sure to make friends there and you could help each other out. The exam was harder than what I anticipated for it to be. Be sure to take the previous exams as if they are the real one.

pretty good subject, must study very hard in, must memorise heaps, but once getting into the flow of learning, is a little easier until topic changes. must really know basics well to do well. hard to do well. fun to study, interesting stuff. a few lecturers were good and keep you awake, whilst others never failed to make me fall asleep.
