A somewhat difficult subject with many concepts that are hard to get a good grasp on, but if the necessary effort is applied then the subject can actually be quite interesting. Though some of the content is extremely dry and at times even boring, there are some topics that have real-life implications and are fascinating.

Found this course either too irrelevant to a career in medicine (and usually quite difficult) or too basic. Some bits are interesting but found most of it quite dry. Exam for my year was an absolute horror, make sure you know every topic well or don't expect a H1.

The subject is interesting and informative but challenging. It demands effort from day 1. The exam assess more understanding and visualising of the concepts. The only concept that was well taught is organic chemistry other topics are just rushed with zero enthusiasm by the lecturers. the practicals are not at all related to what is being taught, they are just an extra burden for students i.e. self learning. However, it is not hard to score H1 if you study actively and devote the time that the subject demands. Good Luck!

I found the latter part of the content really difficult to grasp, mainly because thr lecturers did not explain them well. It was certainly the most difficult of all my subjects this sem. The practicals didnt seem that helpful for the content of the lectures, but, excluding the first, were pretty straightforward. Overall pretty decent subject.

I find this subject very interesting, focusing mostly on Organic Chemistry (which may be a pain for some students). The Organic Chemistry lecturers were extremely helpful and their explanations were pretty good. Plenty of practices required to score well for this subject but the questions in the final exam are repetitive and it's not difficult to find questions online

I actually really liked this subject (although this is not the general consensus in the cohort). You go through organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, transition metals and physical chemistry. Organic chemistry can be difficult to grasp the 3D structure of molecules and extends on the knowledge learnt in VCE. Inorganic chemistry involved having to memorise the structure of certain chelates and structures but if you like drawing its fun. Physical chemistry was probably the worst taught as the lecturer goes through some abstract concepts which feel unrelated. For this section I recommend just ignoring the lecturers rambling and learn the formulas as thats the main part you need to know. Overall, an interesting subject which may require a bit of extra effort to really understand the concepts.

My interest in chemistry was at a height when I entered uni-- in one short semester it plummeted to record lows. Lecturers were boring, the lecturer for thermodynamics kept trying to 'test' us by not answering direct content questions and not uploading the lecture slides until a week after the lecture.
