Reviews

Content was extremely difficult (especially if you do not have previous knowledge about computational models). Very content-heavy. Assignments were tough (lab report was about categorisation processes). This year was a new structure for the course - wasn't the best. The first lecturer poorly explained topics (first 4 weeks). Was not accessible and had ALOT of assumed prior knowledge for a compulsory psyc subject. With that being said. For people who genuinely enjoy this specific computational and cognitive field of psych, they may find it super interesting.

Assignment was a mess - compared to other level 2 psych subjects the assignment was poorly designed and in no way were we taught how to properly interpret the non-significant results, leading poor grades for a lot of students who spent excessive time and effort on assignments. Most of the content was interesting at least

I think this subject has been changed a lot from what I did in 2018, but it was at that time a very well organised and taught course. The exam was fair, and the assignment was clear and well-designed.

A well-organised subject with interesting lectures and content. However, the exam was difficult and it felt like mostly readings of case studies and experiments. Practicals also felt dry and boring.

The lectures were okay (better than social psyc though, social psyc is way too vague), many experiments to remember, however. The tutor was irresponsible, I was taking both cognitive psychology and social psychology and the tutor announce don't send her email, she's busy in the first tut. The report was challenging for students who did not come from the psychology background (I only took MBB1 before). The notes on student VIP are quite helpful for exam preparations and you do need to remember many experiments by heart, the exam also tests some details which I found unnecessary. I feel there are not much assistance while doing report (while when I am doing chemistry, I found teachers are all approachable and helpful)

Meridith and team have coordinated this course exceptionally well! HIGHLY recommend! The assignment was fun for us, and designing our own experiment was difficult but we learnt a lot from this! All lecturers taught very well! Hats off to Meridith, Phil, Dan and Geoff for an amazing semester filled with highly engaging content! If you have Hayley as a tutor, you'll have a blast!

Meredith is an amazing coordinator and one of my most favourite psychology subjects in Melbourne Uni. Make sure you know all the experiments and concepts at the back of your hand, guaranteed 90+

Interesting subject, assessment involved a bit too much spoon feeding and did not encourage independent learning but that could be a plus depending who you are. Content is on a similar level of difficulty with biological psych, if you did well on that, you can do this subject just as well.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018

A well run subject which is a good introduction to the variety of things studied in cognitive science.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018

The content is very interesting but can get overwhelming if you leave it to the last minute. The final exam asked many detailed questions like: " who came up with theory A". The content of assignment was discussed in the first few labs so pay attention from the beginning if you want to do well. All the data will be done in the lab and saved onto your computer for later use in your assignment.
