Reviews

very helpful lecturers and tutors, lots of past papers provided!

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2020

Very easy to understand and grasp concepts despite not having any prior economics knowledge. The lecturer, Jonathan, was really engaging and explained the content really well. They cover a lot of content very quickly, but it's clear to see how each concept links with one another - the lecturer makes these links easy to make as well. I did this subject as a core for the BComm, but I would recommend others to do it as a breadth as it gives you a good foundation for economic knowledge that I think is valuable in the real world.

Very well taught and easy to score well in if you attend the classes. Great breadth option for science students. Assignments were very straightforward and relatively harsh, but the exam makes up for it. Super straightforward and gives you every opportunity to score points. Strongly recommend!

A well taught subject introducing basic concepts and fundamentals in microeconomics! Did this subject as a breadth and thoroughly enjoyed it- not too content heavy and easily manageable

A good introduction to microeconomics, especially from the perspective of someone who did not do it at a VCE level. A lot of content is covered, but at least for my semester, I felt that it was done in a way that was reasonably palatable, assuming you take the time to engage well with the course content and ask others about things you don't know (I had to do this quite frequently, whether this be with my friends or at consults). In Semester 1 this year there generally was a greater degree of quantitative backing to the concepts we learnt (something which separates the subject from VCE), and the exam was much harder than usual, which explained why it scaled ~10 marks depending on your score.

Eik is an engaging and interesting lecturer. The assignments seemed simple but were marked very harshly. The exam was more straightforward compared to semester 1. However, time management is very important and many people didn't finish the paper. I didn't have time to do 30 marks in the exam but was able to get H1 due to scaling.

I had 0 background in economics before this subject. Personally, I find the lectures were very hard and some of the recording were missing and not really recorded effectively, which made it more difficult for me. Tutor was somewhat helpful but tutorial was very rushing. OLT was very helpful. Suffering throughout the semester, but in the end my score was very fine. So work hard on your own, i guess.

The first 9 weeks of the course are extremely easy, however the course tends to become harder after week 9. The assignments were easy and overall quite interesting. The most interesting topics were game theory and competitive strategy.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

Not the best introduction to the content although somewhat interesting if you have had no exposure to economics beforehand.
