Simple unit, covers core finance principles and techniques such as discounted cash flows. Calculations are fairly straightforward. Overall an easy HD

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

It seems Mosha is the first time teaching this unit, overall acceptable teaching style, BUT NOT explaining some concepts clearly. The highlight is the final exam, all short answer questions are calculations, which I love the most. Jing, which taught the first part, tend to focus on concepts in the mid-exam (do not be mislead by her focus on caculations in lectures).

Relatively simple unit, but do make sure to understand discounting cash flows properly and theory. Calculations aren't heavy at all but do require understanding, not just rote memory for HD.

Lecturer wastes a lot of time trying to be cool (he was Frank). Stopped watching the lectures and just used his powerpoints and the tute questions to study. Exam questions are very similar to tute questions. Boring unit if you don't like math.

I did this unit as a broadening, assuming it wouldn't be too tough as a science student (i.e. familiar enough with mathematics already). That was largely true; save for some business-speak terminology the maths is fairly straightforward, even in the latter portion of the unit (where it's just sigma/Std Dev etc). It was taught by Keith when I did it and I really enjoyed how he taught and explained the concepts in very relatable and understandable ways. It's not too hard to HD, and if you're a science student looking for a low-stress broadening I'd take this over most arts units.

The lecturer this semester, Keith, did a good job at explaining the proofs of the formulas and the theory parts. The unit is pretty doable and the maths isn't too hard but some concepts (eg. TVM,NPV) require a good understanding, as it forms the base for further calcs. All the best!

A really good unit that gives you an idea of whether a finance degree is for you. Quite heavy on calculations.

An interesting finance unit. Many formulae and calculations will be taught. Practices are needed to better understanding of how do the formulae work.
