Reviews

This unit is easy, but painfully dry. Like a lot of Commerce core units they will try to mark you harshly for the sake of making the work appear difficult. Concentrate on the report and on your exam more than the inevitably complicated group project.

Currently attending this course. The lectures are just theoretical and no guidance is provided on how to apply the concepts in a meaningful way. Thus when you attempt assignments, there is literally no way to gauge how well you are doing or the grades you are likely to get. Their assessment is close to being entirely random. Unless this is a core mod for you. Please do not take this course, no one needs this level of randomness in university.

Lecturer is engaging and interesting but honestly, not sure how applicable the information learned is to the real world. A lot of the lecture slides are also very vague.

I tutored this subject privately last semester. I like the idea of the subject as it really gets students thinking outside the box. However, the assignments are incredibly difficult, and seemingly not well planned. Asking students to solve the unsolvable environmental/business issues in their first commerce subject makes for a very tough subject. If you can hold off until 3rd year, when you've got a better understanding, do.

Lecturer is engaging and interesting but honestly, not sure how applicable the information learned is to the real world. No ability to gauge/ guesstimate your performance in assessments or exams, until after you get marks back, because there marking methods are truly random.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2014

The most boring, most useless subject ever possible. Nothing actually relevant to the real world, just a process of memorising random theories and regurgitating on exam day. No ability to gauge/ guesstimate your performance in assessments or exams, until after you get marks back, because there marking methods are truly random. Good Luck for Future Students.

Unless you get Steven, the lecturers will legitimately just read off of the slides. The assignments are vague and marked arbitrarily - you can do really well on one and terribly on another with no apparent difference.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

By far the most boring of the compulsory 1st year subjects. I like lecturer Steven Hitchcock who teaches in a relaxed and refreshing way. The subject itself is dry as a bone with endless frameworks and theories which mostly boil down to the idea of sustainability. Assessment tasks (case study and group presentation) are stupid yet time consuming. Lecture slides are very lacking in detail so you essentially have to listen to the lecture (where everyone ends up zoning out). Would have dropped after the first lecture if it weren't compulsory.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

Interesting lecturer, however, poorly set up subject. Honestly would have dropped before census date if it wasn't a core subject. I don't know one person who is happy with this subject.
