Let's just say Andy is the best lecture I have ever had in this degree :))), it is super engaging and he does an amazing job of explaining hard concepts. I came from an Arts background but did a bit of ICT in high school so this is pretty manageable for me. The exam also wasn't that hard and surprisingly this was such a WAM booster for me. Make sure to do the lectures before tutorial tho or you will be very confused.

honestly one of the best psychology subjects i've ever taken in my entire degree! rmhi may seem daunting at first especially to those with little to no experience in coding/statistics, but don't let this discourage you from taking up the subject! the lectures are incredibly fun and engaging along with the weekly practice and tutorial questions! in my opinion, it's a really accessible subject and i'd highly recommend this subject to anyone who is interested in basic coding (r language) and statistics OR those who are looking for a potential wam booster. would also highly HIGHLY recommend xian as a tutor, his enthusiasm and patience will make even the most boring and tiring 8:00am monday morning lab practicals entertaining and something to look forward to!

I knew of Andy’s popularity amongst psych students for a while before I took the subject, but even with high expectations, he did not disappoint! He is genuinely such a good educator and it is obvious how much he cares about and empathises with his students. Heck, I wish there were irl classes so I could’ve sat in on his lectures in person! If you have coding/statistics background, this can definitely be a wam booster tbh. However, if statistics/coding is not your forte or you're not experienced in it (which, I should note, is most of the cohort), I can definitely see how one may struggle a little. I feel as though the content difficulty was a little disproportionally spread over the semester -- the final few weeks were quite dense in comparison to those of the early and middle weeks, particularly the advanced topics week and Geoff's section. Geoff was great. His dead-pan joke delivery was quite fun and made me pause and rewind a few times to make sure I actually heard what I heard lol. In terms of assessments, I found the problem sets adequately challenging. The exam was decent but there was too much unnecessary backstory at times IMO (no matter how endearing our Bunnyland friends are). The tutorials were okay but I found them a little unnecessary at times. I often left feeling as though I could've just done the exercises at home and saved the commute.

Fab subject. Was nervous going in but Andy is an incredible, kind, attentive and understanding lecturer. Can’t emphasise enough how much time and effort was put into making this subject an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Also pretty easy to do well in, very quantitative meaning it’s possible to score really highly in assignments etc. Andy (and Geoff) do a great job of explaining everything in a really understandable and comprehensive way. If you’re nervous to take this subject, don’t be! RMHI is completely doable with a bit of effort :)

Awesome presentation of programming to complete beginners! Learning to code was both challenging and rewarding, and the content was organised in an easily-digestible manner!

Coming into the subject with no knowledge on coding, it was somewhat of a steep learning curve to learn R. But it's really enjoyable and you will be able to figure out how to work around issues for your assignments if you just play around with the code. Andy also made it very easy to understand and was extremely supportive if something unexpected pops up. Learning material is straightforward, and tutes are definitely helpful in consolidating your knowledge. 100% one of the best psych subjects.

really easy subject to do well in like i averaged H1 until the exam happened (which was my fault) but andy is an amazing lecturer and he really makes sure everyone understands how stats work before our assignments.

Definitely a tough subject if you're not a fan of stats (as most of psych students) but Andy is so wonderfully competent that at the end of this subject, you will either be in love with stats or starting to fall in love with it. Conquer stats my brethren!

This subject was amazing, Andy is the best lecturer I have ever had, he made coding and statistics feel so much more manageable. His incorporation of a story into all the lectures, assignments, tutes and even the exam made this subject much more enjoyable and actually motivated me to watch the lectures and go to class because I wanted to know what happened next. The assignments were challenging but doable and the exam was the same, I ended up with an 80 overall and I would 100% take this subject again.

Could not rate this higher !!! By far my favourite psychology subject. First subject in coding but so manageable and actually fun with Andy teaching - by far the best lecturer I've had. He makes learning so fun by having the lecture and tute content go through stories in Bunnyland (following characters of his kids' toys) and also is just a super engaging professor. Also love how supportive he is in our learning & us in general - have genuinely cried a few times at some of his lovely announcements/emails. Having Andy as a professor is truly such a privilege, I'm going to miss this subject and I would honestly recommend this to anyone :)
