Definitely a fast paced and intense subject! Each of the exercises are super fun and you will learn a lot of interesting animation techniques. Tutors are very friendly. Only downside is the turnaround time for each exercise and the visual diary entries which can become a bit tedious. Overall, a very fun subject that anyone from a non-arts background can do well in. Do note that you should enrol early as there is a quota for this subject. Also make sure your laptop has a lot of storage and its a relatively new model that can run Da Vinci Resolve, as I had quite a few issues with downloading all the software needed to complete this subject.

Really enjoyable subject (H1). Coming from an non-arts or humanities background, it is a relatively easy subject which seems a bit difficult during the intensive classes, however it very enjoyable and fun subject to do. It is a fast paced subject so do your best to catch up! I'd recommend not having other commitments in the period that the classes run as you do have a lot of work to do. The only downside were the lectures which were a bit boring and the lack of time before we move on to the text task. Teachers provide good feedback and encouragement, however be quick to enrol as spots fill up very fast!! Overall, this was one of the best subject I have done as breadth.

Grade: H1 (83). I would recommend any Science students to take this subject, even if you have no artistic skills. I took this during Winter 2023, which is an intensive class that ran for only 5 days. Each day consist of 9 hour class where we complete all the assignments that day. We come up with the plan and complete the filming all in one day, then a new topic assignment is made the next day. It was really tiring sure, and being in a class full of Arts student often gives u the imposter syndrome. But really, it is all about the way you write the the reason for your Plan, how organised your artwork portfolio is, and how you interpret artworks (which is really broad so you can just ramble your way!!). If you’re unsure, you can look at fina20036 artworks on Youtube by Chenxi Ding, which convinced me that this subject is fairly easy, or looking at the artwork portfolio on studentvip. The staffs also repeatedly tell you that this subject does not depend on your drawing skills, but on the way you improve over the 1 week course. The final project will also be related to what you’re passionate in, so I made it related to my Science major which i think boosted my grades because it is “unique” and has a purpose. Dont be afraid of not having the art talent, there are many art supplies there for you to explore what you’re good at.
