Coming into this subject without any school background in physics or computing, found it hard, time consuming and really, really, really didn't enjoy the programming

This subject was a great introduction to engineering. Topics include digital systems (binary, logic gates), MATLAB programming and mechanics (trusses, dynamics, moments). The lecture for digital systems Gavin Buskes is very engaging and clear, making this section of the course enjoyable. Shanika (MATLAB) is also good as she prepared comprehensive notes which could be used to learn everything without having to attend lectures as programming isn't really something you can learn well just from lectures. Andrew Ooi is funny and engaging and has lots of animations in his lecture slides. The workshops were long but useful as past exam questions were gone through and some practical components were also included. The subject is run very well with plenty of practice questions provided, video lectures if any material is not covered in the lectures and great lecturers. The textbook is unnecessary as the slides are sufficient. The mechanics part of this course includes some basic calculus (differential equations, Taylor series, Euler approximation) which is cool. The only possible drawback from this subject is the group assignments. Your experience will really depend on your group and you can't choose who you go with so it is really hit and miss. Other than that, great subject, would highly recommend.

The subject was very informative,but it can be hard if you don't keep up with it.MATLAB is an essential software in an engineer's life which is why they taught us that,even though it was a bit hard at some points.The workshops were fun as well.In general,it can be either a fun subject or a pain,depending on how you study it.
