Reviews

I found the lecturer (who was also my tutor) to be extremely interesting, he has a particularly engaging style of teaching and it's clear he's passionate for this subject. Half of the time, the lecture felt like a podcast, and I enjoyed how I could easily listen along, make a couple of notes, and then go to my tutorial to discuss with peers. As a science student, this was my first literature course at uni, and I really enjoyed it. My peers in the tutorial were all so friendly, and I really enjoyed the range of opinions and discussions that were had. Make sure to stay on top of the reading and to start the books early on, so you can keep up with the tutorial discussions and contribute. That being said, I was really quite appreciative that my tutor didn't force anyone to speak out if they didn't want to, and he always seemed to be so engaged in the discussions - honestly wanting to hear what other people thought. I recommend picking a couple of weekly readings, or authors that you're particularly interested in as early as possible, as this will help for the final assignment. The feedback given for the essays was really quite useful, and I'd recommend seeking help from your tutor if you're not comfortable with English essays, and/or if you're doing this as a breadth (like me). It's easy to feel quite overwhelmed and out of your depth when you're surrounded by English lit majors. I got a H1, and its honestly just thanks to how friendly and helpful my tutor was.
