Reviews
Personally, as an economics major, I love macroeconomics. However, for this semester, I did not enjoy the subject. The lecture slides were too bulky and word heavy (about 60 slides per 1 hour lecture). I prefer much more Intermediate macroeconomics which I am doing right now (sem2, 2018)

I did not expect to enjoy this subject as much as I did but it was really very good. I highly recommend it if you have an interest in economics. I made the mistake of slacking on lectures so I did not initially appreciate the course material, and how much our lecturer Graham tried to provide a real-world relevance. However when I was cramming for exams I realised just how much I had been missing. It's not an easy subject but put in the work and you will be able to score well!

Did this subject on summer, Nahid explained the concepts covered in lectures quite well and made not hard (wouldn't say easy) online tests, assignment and final exam as long as you understand the concepts. To score well in this subject, do make sure to understand lectures and tutorial questions also more practice on past papers. Overall, this subject is interesting as it covers a broad concept of macroeconomics and the world economy in large scale.

I loved this subject. Being an enthusiast for economics, I enjoyed every bit of it. It did require effort throughout the semester, but I didn't mind it because of my love for economics. I read the textbook every week before the lectures and made my own notes after. Continuous review and efforts definitely help in the end.

This is a fairly easy subject depending on the amount of effort you placed into it. Easy to understand with just couple of hours self-study per week to fully get the concepts before proceeding with the next theory the week after.

As a person who is new to Macroeconomics, I found this subject quite interesting as it equipped me with tools to look at the economy from a different perspective. The things covered in this subject are quite different from in Introductory Microeconomics, so be prepared for that. As for the lectures, Lawrence is a great lecturer as he’s always well-prepared. However, I thought the information included in the lecture slides was lacking, i.e. it is difficult to make sense of the lecture content just by referring to the lecture slides, so I’d recommend to take notes during lectures and/or refer to the textbook at a minimum. For the final exam, do at least go through and understand all the exercises in the pre-tute and tutorial sheets as this really helped me with my final exam.

Hi this is a good subject but you have to make sure to understand the concepts in-depth to fully benefit from it!
Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017
Be sure to understand the graphs and concepts behind it as well.

The teaching in this semester (2017 sem 2) has been very frustrating. Explanations in lectures are lacking and if you have a question about the lectures and ask the online tutor they simply refer you to the lecture slide where the lacking explanation was given in the first place. Very much a self-help subject. Personally my tutor was not great, and not once have I heard them ask if anyone has any questions, which is telling because a lot of people have a lot of questions. That said, I know that there are some really good tutors within the subject who really care about people's learning.

Robert Dixon is a great lecturer. A little cranky but otherwise amazing. Very conceptual subject. If you start falling behind, you won't be able to understand the future lectures.
