Reviews

the content was so interesting and the quizzes were so easy. assignments were great too but the marking was always a little harsh. overall, a rewarding unit

Given the competition in third year psych it is difficult to do well. Only do this unit if you are determined to go on to fourth year. It is challenging, and the last assessment if reflective writing. Incredibly interesting content though - all about the different categories in the DSM.

I loved this class, it was so interesting and I feel really valuable knowledge to have going forward in psychology. The assessments were quite easy - a reflection, a clinical report, quizzes on short case studies, and a MCQ exam.

Nice and I really loved it, I got a distinction. I could guide my fellow classmates

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2016

The final assessment is a wank. One of those "describe how the content of one of these lectures profoundly changed you and your understanding of psychological illness" essays - and in third year, too! Surely it can be assumed we have reflective skills by this point. Anyway, the content is interesting, but if you've previously studied mental illness, developmental disorders, etc. in other units or in your own time it'll mostly be revision. No real new or niche information (which, again, makes it difficult to do a reflective assignment on how the content deepened your understanding.) At least the exam's multiple choice.

As far as the core 3rd year psych subjects go, this was definitely the most interesting, and the best overall. This unit kept me relatively sane whilst I was having to slug my way through the boring monotony that was PSY3041.
