Reviews

This subject was straight up not a vibe. The lectures would always be like 2 hours long which is fair enough but then on top of that they would assign 60 pages of reading. Most of which would not have even been covered in the lectures. So much work with very little reward- I was able to scrape a low distinction in this unit but I really regret taking it and wouldn't recommend it for anyone doing it as an arts degree.

Of course, they would make the core subjects for first-year psychology inexplicably difficult... This unit sucked a little less than the first-semester unit (PSY1011) did, with the assessments this time round being somewhat more clearer and more bearable. Overall, the content was comparably easier as much of it focused on the basics of research methods. However, many lectures were still hard to digest and contain a lot of information unnecessary for the exams. Also, the weighting of assessments is still really out of wack.

good luck and have fun....

Overall a passable unit when given the dedication it needs. Assignments can be confusing but if time and effort is put in once again you can achieve well. The study load is heavier than other first year units I experienced especially as you need to know all the content for end of year exam. Exam was not actually to bad considering assignments had be slightly confusing.

- Heavy study load - Badly coordinated subject - High expectations for assignments for a first-year subject (You have to write a research proposal and that's 40% of your total mark) - Teachers and Tutors are pretty useless (you have to do your own reading and go through the eWorkbook which by the way takes ages to do) Overall, would not recommend it unless its a prerequisite. Which then I would say to you "Good Luck"

Absolute worst units you can do at monash (PSY1011 & PSY1022). Don't do it, even if you love psych and are good at it. Its marked super harshly and inconsistently. They say they don't use a bell curve but just recently got exposed for using a bell curve of 6.3-6.5 (out of 10). Just not a good time at all, and this is coming from someone who thought they wanted to pursue psych and was extremely good at it. Definitely not an easy unit to get a good grade in, if youre after a HD dont do it.

Very similar to PSY1011! Interesting content. Assessments are easy to pass however you need to utilise you tutor. It's a good idea to set up a study group since there is so much content to learn for the exam.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018

Basically the same as PSY1011. Assignments were confusing. Content was heavy. Tutes were quite boring.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018

Loved it, so interesting and engaging, and assessments were quite straightforward

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

I loved it, Basically just your follow up to PSY1011. Assignments weren't much easier to understand. Did still achieve HD.
