Reviews

This course is taught by one of the best lecturers at Macquarie (Prashan). The staff teaching this course are very experienced and it is taught in such a way that students with no background in Economics can understand it. Make sure you attend all lectures and tutorials. The concepts taught here are important for Microeconomics 2.

Make sure you go through the topics in the CoreEcon textbook. The questions from the quiz are mostly or very similar to textbook questions. Its also really helpful for the Assignment. Final are not too hard if you practice sample paper question and textbook questions. Overall the subject is not too hard if you keep little effort in

I've completed the recently updated ECON111. The new curriculum, in my opinion, wasn't taught particularly well, with some theory completed rushed resulting in future content being difficult to understand. I was lucky to have background knowledge in economics, having completed HSC economics, which has helped me to understand ECON111. The lecturer Craig was extremely helpful, however, the tutors were not the best at explaining the concepts and the assignment marking was quite limited in the feedback they gave. Hopefully, improvements are made so that students in the future have an easier time in this unit which is compulsory for most commerce students to complete.

I never did economics in school, so at first it was challenging to understand some of the contents. Prashan was so engaging as he divided challenging concepts into easy-to-understand concepts. The other lecturer was quite monotone and read off the powerpoint slides.

If you did any Microeconomics course in high school, ECON111 will be easy. However, there is quite a bit of work and the final, while incredibly easy to pass or get a credit, is harder to excel at. Going to Prashan's lectures is essential since he cuts through the BS and makes it an interesting and interactive course. Oh, and he plays Disney movie clips which tie into lessons, which is always a plus.

This unit is a beloved one for the lecturer / legend Prashan. But this unit is very dense, it covers a lot of material, if you attend Prashans lectures the content won’t seem to much, but compare it to ECON110 and it’s much more work. It’s an intense course that is fun and doable if you stay on top of the work. Be warned the course moves quickly and if you fall behind, catch up ASAP.

prashan is an amazing lecturer who keeps the lectures interesting. pretty easy subject if you stay on top of everything

Prashan does a fantastic job in his lectures, it is a necessity to attend/watch his lectures, as he enables you to see the importance of many of the microeconomic fundamentals in a fun and interesting way.

If you get a chance to take this unit - do it. Well run and the convenor/lecturer makes normally boring economic concepts fun, enjoyable and easy to understand. Tutors are a bit hit and miss, but attending lectures is already enough to get a good mark.

If you have done HSC economics, you should have no problems with this course. All economics concepts are explained well and supported by real life examples. Economics is very intuitive. Basic maths are enough.
