This subject sucked absolutely ruined my semester. Tried so hard to keep up even went to the help desk didn’t help. Coming from non chemistry background couldn’t get my head around it definitely recommend a tutor if you’re struggling and the bridging course which wasn’t offered to me. If you’re struggling get ontop if it ASAP.

Great first subject for chemistry, I didn't do chemistry in year 11 or 12 and didn't take the 2 week bridging course but still ended up with a high distinction. However, I think my maths ability really helped and the bridging course would have been beneficial. Definitely make the most out of the workshops they were essential for my understanding of the concepts. The lectures are a little dry and sometimes very hard to grasp. Although, I didn't use the textbook a whole lot which probably would have helped.

A very good introductory subject for chemistry. I personally did year 11 Chemistry in HSC before dropping due to near failure however felt that this subject and its concepts were explained really well. Obviously study and effort needs to be put in, but overall a really well structured subject. I found the workshops and working in groups really helpful and if you are completely new to chem, definitely do the 2 week bridging course. Essentially, it covers the first 3-4 weeks of content in the semester and eases you into the content.

A big leap from a non-chemistry background. Everyone however is in the same position. Don't just rely upon the textbook, attend PASS classes, go to the lecturer if unsure and make the most out of workshop classes.
