i got an h2a. David kinda rambles a lot and wasnt a fan of the girl lecturer either, got boring and repititive at times, david goes on rants about the most random things so yeah. Only difficulty I had in this subject was finding a group and trying to understand what they wanted from the assignments as its kinda unclear. dont recommend joining this subject unless you already have friends joining with you. Or you're confident you can make friends easily because there arent really opportunities to talk to people, the tutes are just extended lectures, and David kinda talks the whole time. Grading is biased on whatever the lecturer likes, the assignemnts claim to give you a lot of freedom and creativity but really you should just do what david wants to see (learned the hard way). If you dont have any digital skills or other nerdy skills you might struggle, as they expect you to create something original with those skills, i took this class thinking it was chill and kinda as a buffer for my other classes and kinda had an interest in video games, but it ended up being annoying. they want you to be like the next picasso or something. i got a disappointing grade cus david didnt like it and wrote a whole rant of rly angry and kinda rude feedback (followed ALL instructions, been to all lectures) honestly hurt my feelings cus i put a lot of effort and loved it, also ran it through by him and he said it sounded good. dont do it if you just like playing games thats not enough you have to be a hardcore nerd lol

Our team completely burnt out to get the game ready on time. The lecturer don't know how to open our game in macOS (requested by him) despite installation guide provided in out itch.io website. He end up giving us 85% cuz the website look good. Not worth the time and effort.

Subject is super easy so it’s a good WAM booster but to put it nicely, the tutor isn’t much of a people person. Not very helpful and mostly just rambles through the tutorial. Still enjoyable enough and worth it if you like video games though

Engaging and creative subject that explores video games from social, psychological, and technological angles. Discussions were lively and intellectually stimulating. David is very engaging and I love his approach to teaching. If you're creative you'll enjoy this subject.

Super interesting class! The lectures were always engaging, interactive and enjoyable. The 2 group assignments are pretty chill and fun, always collaborative, just make sure you find a good group! David was lovely, always willing to answer any questions. Also met so many different people from different degrees and courses, so was nice to make friends across disciplines. ALSO there are not really tutorials, just 2 (non compulsory) lectures a week. I would def recommend this subject, I didn't know anything about video games and still found it interesting and didn't struggle to keep up or anything. It's a really nice, relaxing and fun breadth (and at least in my case, was a wam booster).

Grade: H1 93. This is the easiest subject as long as you have some interest in video games. Stopped attending lectures and tutorials after 4 weeks of the same ramblings by David Shea. Truly an eccentric fella. Both assignments are easy and relatively short and the second one even allows you to develop further on the first. Only gripe is that they take the "remaking reality" part of the subject a bit too seriously. Like gaming is not that deep bro, chill. Acting like video games is such a profound medium that can change the world is off-putting to me. Comes off as such a cope

Get to meet some really cool people while taking the class. Extremely chill vibe although you may not really learn much if you already know about video games. Guest lecturers are where the subject shines content wise as they are given by already established individuals from different aspects in the industry. Assignments are straight forward and easy enough to do well in.
