Did it as a summer term subjects. Judging by the course title and description I really thought it would be more instrument-related so I was a little disappointed when it really was "experimental" music that involved making random sounds but that's on me I guess - just a warning to all avid instrumentalists out there who may have thought otherwise. It is a very manageable workload. The 50% "contributions" criteria is actually made of various little assessments and not simply just showing up to classes. I personally didn't find it overly interesting because 1) I was expecting something else and 2) very little of the experimental basis translates to developing your instrumental performance. However, with that being said your tutors are experts at their instruments. Side note: results release for Summer Term was VERY delayed. They said all marks would be submitted by end of March but results were not updated on my.unimelb until end of April. Overall, a somewhat enjoyable subject to pass the summer holidays. Definitely requires some but not too much effort. Got a 90 (H1) in the end just giving it my best shot.

Did in summer term. BEST SUBJECT EVERRRRR!!!! Tom was great!!! Make sure you show your passion and dedication by volunteering to answer questions, ask questions and put in effort into your soundbites. Show your creativity! Also, no need for any prereq music knowledge whatsoever!

Very relaxing subject, and we get the opportunity to appreciate music beyond its conventional portrayal. We were encouraged to be guided by our own musical intuition, and dive into the perception of sounds. Would recommend for anyone interested in music or sounds!
