I took this subject as a breadth in my first year (I think it's changed to a first year subject now) and it was merged with the honours subject. This was a really fantastic subject which broadens your scope of music outside of the Western canon, and Nick was a great lecturer. I found some of the guest speakers a bit boring than others mainly due to how they chose to engage the audience. The quizzes were quite easy if you did the lectures, however the listening task is quite hard. Though we hear the songs in the lectures, the markers were quite pedantic about how they wanted you to answer the questions. Read the number of marks and structure your answer accordingly! The final essay however was really good, and if you want to do well I suggest doing an artist/genre profile (the other choice is a choose your own essay question which Nick has to approve).
