Reviews

I agree with previous review, mark and Oleg are great people and university staff. I found this subject pretty good, but would have liked to focus more on political and social aspects. But i understand wwii is a lot to cover.

Love Mark, he is a great lecturer, but this subject was more boring than I had anticipated. It was less focused on ideas and overall themes and more on specific battles. I also found that it took a strong bias towards the USSR, which I understand since Mark's expertise is Soviet History. I did enjoy the Asia lectures and final thematic lectures but you really don't realise how boring the European land war was until you study it for weeks on end. Did find studying a little difficult as the subject is so broad. I'd suggest that you pick one area or time period (or something of the sort) and focus on taking notes on that during the lectures, otherwise assignments, and the subject as a whole, can become a little overwhelming. Would've preferred more focus on social and political aspects like Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, China, UK etc. but would recommend to anyone who has a genuine interest in WW2 as it is quite thorough.
