Good subject. Bit daunting for those like me who are introverted and hate acting, but really eye opening. You may feel nervous to sign during, but will feel good once you complete the subject

High-quality subject and would recommend. Ask around for others who have done the Auslan assignment for some tips beforehand though as the criteria are super vague! The entire course is so fulfilling though and you go from 0-100 real quick! Tutorial classes and lectures were all taught by deaf people and the deaf teachers had such high energy and were filled with positivity and enthusiasm to teach! Overall an eye-opening experience!

I really loved learning Auslan and learning about Deaf culture. The two assessments were a bit vague in terms of what they expected from us, but because I have previously done D&C (Deafness and Communication) (which has similar assignments), I still ended up doing pretty well again in this subject, A&VC (Auslan and Visual Communication). Assignment 1 was about creating an Auslan resource, which is similar to the assignment form D&C, except the topic must be about Auslan. Along with the resource, you also have to submit a 500-word rationale about why you chose that particular format (e.g. website, pamphlet, poster, PPT) and why you included the things that you included (Hint: I found that the tutorials and workshops were the most relevant for Assignment 1). Assignment 2 was an essay, which I thought complemented the lectures best (Hint: Use the references at the end of the lecture for the essay, and find more references). I think most people struggled because they weren't sure what was being asked of them (which is totally fair, and I would have felt the same if I had not done D&C prior to A&VC).

The assessments weren't very relevant to what we learn't at all and we were not told how to do the assessments very clearly. The assessments were an essay on a given topic (there are very limited resources available) and the creation of a resource to teach Auslan. My resource was created to target a younger audience and yet was penalise for using more colloquial language and the 'lack of sophistication in language used'...

Did this as a winter intensive. Loved the time I spent in these classes, the time flew and I learnt so much. But I dont think the assessment were very relevant to what we learnt in class / we werent give much direction as to how to do the assessment (aka speaking AUSLAN)
