Ensuring safety and providing quality care are fundamental principles used by health care professionals to guide and structure practice. Clinical governance is one framework through which healthcare organisations are accountable for continuously improving quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care. In this subject, students will explore the components of clinical governance including the impact of healthy work environments and the principles of risk assessment. Students will discuss the role and projects of the Clinical Excellence Commission and debate the challenges of clinical governance and the impact of health care reform on practice.
