Description

These are the notes that I created and used for my study of CIVL2700: Transport Systems in Semester 1, 2018. The subject was interesting, however, there was a lot of content from a variety of different topics, and so it was important to separate and summarise all the information in a concise manner. These notes summarise and combine the important information found in the lecture slides and tutorial slides, in the guest lectures, as well as important comments made by the lecturer throughout the semester. The use of consistency, colours, and tables have been used in the notes to enhance the memorisation process. For example, definitions are placed in green tables, comparisons and contrasts of key ideas are placed in orange tables, and etc. In the 2018 rendition of the course, 12 topics were covered in the 13 weeks of the semester. The topics covered in 2018 (and thus in these notes) are: 1. Introduction to Traffic & Transport Engineering and Modelling 2. Transport Network Modelling (Traffic Assignment) 3. Choice Modelling 4. Travel Demand Forecasting 5. Queuing Theory 6. Traffic States and Measurement 7. Macroscopic Traffic Models 8. Highway Operations and Level of Service 9. Principles of Intersection Control 10. Traffic Signal Timing Design and Analysis 11. Public Transport Operation and Planning 12. Intelligent Transport Systems
