Unless it's mandatory for your major, or the unit curriculum undergoes a complete overhaul, I highly do not recommend this unit. As far as I understand, there has been the same convener for years, and he either has not taken any feedback from previous years, or is unwilling to change. Assessment briefs are vague and misleading, it's almost like you're set up for failure. When you ask him questions, he says that the assessment brief is "just a suggestion". If the briefs were so vague, it should be easy to ace this unit, but since its not, it seems that what constitutes a good grade is what the convener considers acceptable, his own hidden marking rubric. Not to mention, the learning content is outdated and not in any way relevant to editing in the digital age. Interesting to learn about proof marking symbols, but not practical in any other aspect. If you're coming from another department, and decide to do this as an elective, there is no brief on unit expectations, you just have to flounder about and hope for the best. I say this as a third year in the Arts faculty. TLDR: Don't do it.
