Reviews

Richard Carter White is an excellent lecturer that has a gift of making somewhat "boring" topics fun and interesting. This subject opened my mind to how geography is all around us. I found the short essay relatively difficult as it is limited to using only 3 readings and the question is quite vague. However, the long essay was very easy to gain great marks as it allows you to focus on a diverse range of topics. However, I only rated it 4 stars as the tutorials were quite boring and not even compulsory. The tutes are great for 1st year students as it gives the basics of uni housekeeping, however, I feel as though it is too basic to the point it feels like a high school subject rather than a uni subject

Content and assignments are straightforward but readings are unnecessarily long and kinda pointless. Main lecturer (Richard) is very engaging and concise – if you can, get him as your tutor. Easy pass.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS AT ALL! Set weekly readings are 100 pages long. Lectures (2 a week) just re-iterate word for word (but summarised) the readings? Tutorials have no point, not related to exam or GEOGRAPHY AT ALL?!?! DO NOT DO THIS UNIT - drop the minor or major tbh.

A very interesting and engaging unit! The lecturer (Jess) was amazing, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in Geography and wants to gain an introductory feel to the subject.

It was an easy and interesting subject. If you did Geography or Economics in Year 12 you'll find this subject especially easy but even if you haven't, you still shouldn't struggle. The lectures were all interesting and you cover a broad range of topics such as globalisation, geopolitics, the environmental humanities etc. There's a textbook with quite a lot of readings assigned but I didn't find them too necessary. I found all the assignments pretty easy and the final exam was very easy as long as you'd studied and attended the lectures. Overall, an easy and enjoyable unit which I'd recommend to anyone interested in human geography, regardless of your background.

A really interesting subject if you’re into globalisation and human geography type stuff. The assignment essay’s are a little difficult but if you like the subject it’s easier. Would not reccomend doing it if you 1. don’t like a lot of reading e.g textbook passages (huge ones) 2. aren’t actually passionate about human geography 3. have not got any prior knowledge about geography in general as i chose this for my people unit (i am not doing a geography degree nor did i study it in high school) and i felt like i didn’t know what was going on half of the time. But besides that it was actually super interesting and i’m glad i gave it a try.

Great subject overall. Some topics were too broad overall. Not too strenuous. Tutorials were great!

Absolutely hated the subject, biggest waste of time and felt as though it was too general in nature. Was taught poorly and the structure/assignments were poor.

Possibly the most boring and worst subject I have ever done - Actually considering changing my major (Public Health: Policy and Promotion) just so I don't have to do this required subject. Biggest waste of my time and money and completely irrelevant to my degree. If you're considering major in Public Health for Human Science - don't do it to avoid the horrors of GEOP111

This subject was interesting, but sometimes the terms and language used was difficult to understand. A lot of world topics are covered e.g. population growth, climate change. The assessments were marked fairly, and overall this subject wasn't too strenuous.
