This unit was so poorly organised, the lectures were not at all engaging and the tutor (at least the one I had) treated us like children. The lectures seemed like random rambles or streams of consciousness and there was no clear outline of what we were supposed to learn so writing notes was challenging. This course only has two 50% essays, each on one week's worth of content. This meant that the other 11 weeks of content went un-assessed. The tutor often put down student's ideas, she would get us to write ideas on the board and if she disagreed, instead of asking our opinion/getting us to engage in debate, would just wipe it off without really explaining why we were "wrong". I understand this sort of method in perhaps a maths class where there is a clear right or wrong answer, but education is so open to interpretation that straight up dismissing someone's thought process was not helpful. I was excited for this unit as a history major as it is the first history/geography specialised education unit, and from the unit guide seemed interesting but the execution of this course was very disappointing. Until the unit convenor/tutors are replaced and the course is restructured, I would not recommend taking this class.

I took this years ago (writing in 2017) and it's sad to see the unit has not changed. There was a student motion to have the unit coordinator replaced, signatures gathered and everything. It was disorganised, nonsensical, the task sheets simply did not match the marking, the fail rate was excessive which wasn't a surprise as the content was occasionally just a waffling incoherent jabber. I got my Credit purely through objecting. The reason "no-one in this cohort answered the assignment question" was because we were quite literally asked a different question. Absolute shambles of a subject. Do Not Take This As An Elective.

I honestly felt like this entire unit was dedicated entirely to geography teachers. Not too much history content, and the assignments made no sense to me.

I think this is the most confusing, messed up and disjointed unit you will ever experience. I agree with the reviewer above, the schedule was changed constantly and no-one had any idea where we were actually up to. A shame as the subject matter is interesting but the organisation is diabolical! Beware if it is an elective, choose something else!

On paper I thought this unit had potential, but it was run poorly. That subject matter is very unstructured. I came out of the unit not really understanding the central theme of what they were trying to teach. I still did very well in the unit, I just didn't find it rewarding at all.
