I loved it, but then again, I love writing. It is a great class for first-year students because it provides a foundation for understanding academic assessments and writing. Lectures were all online, and the tutorials involved class discussions. The assessments were: 200-300 word blogs every week, the occasional writing, reading, and grammar quiz, a persuasive essay, an online blog, and a research article. I would recommend it. However, some classmates found it overly boring, and I agree that it could be provided with a bit more enthusiasm.

I personally really liked the subject! It wasn't what I expected. In all honesty, it was a bit of bludge unit. Easy distinctions. It's a great subject for first year students as the work load isn't too much. Though, the tutors vary. I personally had a great enthusiastic tutor, whereas some of my friends had ones that bored them to death.

Absolutely horrible subject, boring and useless. Easy to do externally and get a good mark with very minimal effort, but that's only if it doesn't bore you to death while you are learning useless information about grammar and academia which is just common sense (way too much grammar content which you don't expect at ALL). Chose it as a people unit to avoid doing a more science based one and that is the only reason I would recommend the unit, if it is your dead last option.

Really boring and dry. Don’t need the textbook. However subject is pretty easy but hated having to write blogs every week.

So boring and lots of assessments. Really disorganised teaching staff that don't seem to talk to each other

A really easy subject. there is no final exam, but the content is really boring and there isnt much fun. The tutorials and the lectures are really badly organised in regards to assignments and aiding your writing ability. If you want easy marks go for it, but this subject will kill you with bordem.

Pretty boring and not at all useful. May be good if you're completely unfamiliar with academia (how uni is structured, critical thinking, plagiarism, netiquette) but it was a waste of time when I thought it would just be about essay writing.

Pretty boring subject didnt really enjoy it. If you enjoy English this is the class for you !

Easy entry level subject to do, especially if you need to do a people unit. Content a bit boring/repetitive however, but if you're a first year student it's probably the perfect subject.

I think the subject was great in terms of helping with academic writing. I think the team is lovely. However during the semester that I was completing it, the unit guides, lecture slides were commonly outdated and lecturer was apologising all the time for not updating slides and things like that. Lecturer was also away quite a bit, the very last week's lectures were skipped and to date no online lecture was recorded for it. Once again, don't get me wrong, it was a great subject, learnt a lot, value the lecturer and tutors, but just a little unorganised.
