I am unsure of how this unit is typically run outside of COVID circumstances but from my experience, or lack of, I did not find this was a fulfilling unit. The theory assignment report was good and allowed us to think in a way suitable for the clinical setting. However, being a nurse requires a high standard of skill which we were unable to properly pick up due to the lack of laboratory experiences. We went into the university four times in the entire semester and learnt critical skills that form a foundation for the profession. The only thing we went over repeatedly was TPR (Temperature, Pulse, Respiratory Rate + Blood Pressure) for our practice assessment, but other skills were only taught once and never practised again. The rest of our labs were held online which was difficult and ineffective at teaching practical skills. Nevertheless, the lab tutors were friendly and experienced and always shared their own interesting stories about the nursing profession.
