Dr Heathcote is an incredible teacher but demands academic rigour. The assessment pieces are very straightforward and there aren't any surprises. Do be thorough with your preparation and the course will be clear. I would focus very heavily on the cases and the VCLT, and less on the readings. Do attend the tutorials as the ANU hires really exceptional tutors for this subject. If you've liked the clarity of APL, you'll love International law.

While the course content is interesting, the bulk of material is from weeks 1-6. Make sure you pay good attention in this time even though the lectures may be a bit dry, otherwise you will be really disadvantaged. The two online exams are very stressful and full of so many issues to address in under one hour. All course content is and often will be made examinable, unlike other courses where you may be lucky to get away with specialising in a few areas. However, your responses to the exams can never show your true capability due to the time restraint and there are no second chances.
