not the most interesting unit, but was very achievable to get a HD due to the lecturer Marty always being available to answer questions (on the discussion board and in person). Not as bad as you think it will be, if you keep up with the work as there is a lot of content to cover each week.

Marty is an amazing lecturer who really breaks the concepts down into bite-sized pieces. I found the first half of the course quite difficult, very fast-paced and a lot of formulas/ concepts to work through... but persist! Once content has been examined it is no longer directly examinable. The second half is mostly different forms of hypothesis testing, so formulas are very similar to one another.

Marty is a great and very helpful lecturer who genuinely wants to help his students and makes time for them. All maths and stats courses in the university also have free tuition 3 times a week where you can get help for this course if you don't understand anything. It is admittedly easier if you did methods in high school but since there is a lot of help given with the unit at the uni, as long as you ask questions if you don't understand to make sure you understand and keep on top of work, it really is a breeze and an easy d or hd. The tests are really easy too, usually always a direct copy of the past exams. The exam was a little harder but again, the course is a very easy course once you get the hang of it

Very fast paced so keep up with the lectures and the online videos. Marty was a great lecturer and taught the unit as if we didn't know anything about statistics (me pretty much). Go to the labs and practical lectures. Exams are identical to the the past papers

I found it quite difficult. Fast paced, a lot of content and theory that needs to be grasped early on. Weekly quizzes counted for 10% and it made a difference knowing the content and understanding how to do problems prior to the labs. If you’re struggling early on, get a tutor!

Content can sometimes be too much all in one go. Some concepts require extra time/ effort to understand. Practice exams definitely help, but if you're unlucky, Marty might decide to change the difficulty of the exam and it could be completely different to past exams.

This unit goes throw a number of different techniques for hypothesis testing, usually a new one each week. In that sense it does move quite quickly, so you need to stay on top of it each week. My advice would be to get a good understanding of conditional probability and Bayes' theorem early on, that tends to throw a lot of students off at the first exam.

This is a great, well organised unit. It has a lot of contact hours though, 6 hours a week. For Maths Applications kids, prepare to study hard to do well in this unit. For methods/spec kids-you already know 2/3 of the content so prepare for a cruisey, very minimal study HD.

Super easy HD if you can do basic maths methods/3CD probability

Topics include displaying and summarising data; random variables and their distributions; normal and binomial distributions; sampling distributions and hypothesis testing; confidence intervals; t-tests and F-tests; regression and correlation; goodness of fit; chi-square tests; and introduction to analysis of variance.
