Reviews

Did this as a level 2 broadening unit after finishing INDG1160, and it was definitely a highlight. The lectures were pre-recorded from a range of different people - elders, lecturers, authors and so on, so you are exposed to range of different views and histories, although it did feel a little disjointed. The tutes are thought-provoking, with lots of opportunity for discussion, which seems pretty consistent with other INDG units. There was lots of room to be creative in how you approach to the essay and field journal assessments, although the marking could be quite harsh at times. There's no exam either, so it's a pretty chill unit as you get heaps of time to complete the major assessments. We went on a series of field trips to significant sites on Noongar boodjar, and it was interesting to learn about Noongar culture and history, and how Noongar people view these places which are often taken for granted in post-colonial Perth. Dreaming stories are intertwined with the landscape around Perth, it's definitely worth learning more about the history and culture that has been here for so many thousands of years.
