Great unit

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2016

If you're expecting to come out of this unit, able to speak basic French fluently, please go somewhere else. The only things you can expect to do well on, after taking this unit, are basic writing and reading. Not speaking. Even then, you have to work extremely hard to keep up, because the lecturer literally zooms through half the textbook leaving us drowning in a cascade of grammar and random vocab. I can't stress enough on how fast the teaching is- it is unbelievably overwhelming, especially for a unit meant for beginners. The tutors are alright. Lecturer and tutors are approachable enough. Weekly quizzes are okay only if you study the related pages well. The last dictation is hard. Exam is okay if you do all the revision exercise handouts in tutes, and the past papers. Recommended if you can handle lots of self-study weekly.

Very difficult to keep up with if you haven't done any French before! But if you study hard and do a little bit of work each day, you'll very quickly keep up and catch up!
