A rigorous unit, but I learnt a shit-ton. Each week the lecturer assigns you an economic research paper to read, which is then discussed in the lecture. Definitely get your head around the papers as you have to be able to write about them in the exams. Aside from the papers, there isn’t actually that much content in the lectures – instead the emphasis is on class discussion which the lecturer is quite good at facilitating, so it really helps if you turn up. For the assignment you had to write a paper on an economic policy problem in another country, which could be tricky if you got a small country that hadn’t been extensively studied, however a large part of your mark comes from giving, receiving and acting on peer feedback which makes it a very worthwhile exercise nevertheless.
