Unit required more direction and guidance from the unit coordinator. Grading seemed a bit bias and covid lockdown did not help with the practical part of the unit. If it weren’t for my group this would have been a lower rating.

To be fair, I had to take this unit in the semester that COVID hit so things had to be changed last minute, but I can’t ignore the fact that offshore students were left high and dry on this one. They didn’t bother recording their own demos (kinda ironic for a production unit), instead we were given links to YouTube videos, which I’m pretty sure is a violation of fair use. Because the videos weren’t made by the unit coordinator, we had to jump from one video to another to learn exactly what was in the syllabus. Most of the unit banks on your final project which is a short film. My group couldn’t decide on a topic so we were assigned one, the only problem is that the topic we were given was related specifically to issues on campus so as an offshore student I couldn’t contribute to production and I was basically forced to do post-production. I attended all the classes and Zoom consults and somehow still got a lower grade than my onshore groupmates who missed a consult or two. The lecturer said it was because I didn’t speak up enough during consults because the consults all took place during production where I had nothing to show or ask and there was only one during post-production.

A great unit, had a fun time and learned a lot. Not too content heavy, very practical based. Would give a word of warning that the group you end up in will determine how you find this unit, as you'll be working together for the whole unit on a short video worth 50%. I had an amazing group and had a blast. Would recommend :))
