Reviews

One of the best units, everything was provided, nothing was lacking. Tutors were friendly and helpful.

I cannot stress enough how amazing this unit was. Marty is an amazing lecturer who provides an abundance of resources for students to prepare for tests and reinforce their learning. Tests and mid-sem are a mixture of largely multiple-choice but also short-answer responses testing working out and understanding of conceptual ideas. Final exam was just multiple choice and I definitely felt extremely prepared as Marty provided many previous years worth of previous exams beforehand to practice on. The caveat on my review, however, is that I did do well in methods and spec in high school. Even so, I believe that this only helped for some of the earlier weeks and many of the concepts and content particularly in the second half of the semester are brand new. As long as you watch the lectures each week and keep up with them so that you can do the lab questions you won't have much difficulty. Marty and the tutors are all extremely nice and open to helping you or scheduling a time to have a chat. I found this to be an extremely easy HD but there are definitely those who struggled more who didn't have as strong of a math background particularly those who had only previously done math apps, though, please don't shy away from giving this unit your best crack as the content is really interesting and the resources you have access to are well designed to take you through step by step how to grasp the content.

Love this unit! The content is very easy to understand especially if you did well in high school Methods. Props to Marty for making the in-semester tests and final exam open book. The final exam was fully multiple choice this semester which was a huge bonus. The mid-sem was a take home assignment which honestly was so easy to do well in. Highly recommend this unit as an elective if you need an easy HD!

The content is very understandable and well taught, if you did methods ATAR you're already pretty well equiped for this unt. If anything, it is a bit fast paced and content heavy but nothing that's not manageable

Best elective unit I've ever done. Anyone from any major can take it as long as you like math and stat, if you have some basic background of stat that'll be great. The UC is the best in everything, he makes this unit interesting for someone hates commerce so much like me. Not time-consuming, medium content load, easy assignments.

Very fast paced but easy to understand concepts. Go to all lab sessions and work on the problem solving questions. For the exams, work on the past papers given, the structure is exactly the same, the questions are highly similar. Highly recommended to take this unit as it could be really useful in the future.

not the most interesting unit, but was very achievable to get a HD due to the lecturer Marty always being available to answer questions (on the discussion board and in person). Not as bad as you think it will be, if you keep up with the work as there is a lot of content to cover each week.

Marty is an amazing lecturer who really breaks the concepts down into bite-sized pieces. I found the first half of the course quite difficult, very fast-paced and a lot of formulas/ concepts to work through... but persist! Once content has been examined it is no longer directly examinable. The second half is mostly different forms of hypothesis testing, so formulas are very similar to one another.

Marty is a great and very helpful lecturer who genuinely wants to help his students and makes time for them. All maths and stats courses in the university also have free tuition 3 times a week where you can get help for this course if you don't understand anything. It is admittedly easier if you did methods in high school but since there is a lot of help given with the unit at the uni, as long as you ask questions if you don't understand to make sure you understand and keep on top of work, it really is a breeze and an easy d or hd. The tests are really easy too, usually always a direct copy of the past exams. The exam was a little harder but again, the course is a very easy course once you get the hang of it

Very fast paced so keep up with the lectures and the online videos. Marty was a great lecturer and taught the unit as if we didn't know anything about statistics (me pretty much). Go to the labs and practical lectures. Exams are identical to the the past papers
