So far the worst marketing subject ever. The entire marking in the subject is super confusing. And why is there no ed discussion for this subject when the case analysis assignment is super unorganised? The teaching team has no idea what they are doing. Plus, the ways the lecturer and tutors answer questions offer little help, if not zero. In two different lectures, the lecturer even answered the exact same question twice but with completely opposite answers. Just a lot of vague explanations. Reading the textbook is more worth the time than listening to the lectures. Anyways, good luck to anyone majoring in marketing who has to go through the spss hellhole (aka an outdated software that takes ages to open).

Wasn't excited for this subject but as it is required for the Marketing major I had to do it. Was pleasantly surprised. It's very stats based however the tutors are a lot more approachable and helpful then the BUSS1020 tutors. I would defiantly recommend completing BUSS1020 first however so you don't have to spend to much time learning the basic stat principals. I also found the textbook was very useful as the lectures follow along with the chapters however sometimes I found the textbook easier to understand than the lectures. Make sure you pick a good group who is going to pull there weight with SPSS as it's not the easiest program to use if your not mathematically inclined.

Loved this subject and the project

It's an important subject because data and insights really drive marketing decisions. If you don't like stats you might hate this subject because of the p-value involved. It's 50% hefty theory and 50% about learning to use the software SPSS and read results. The exams are theory heavy, but if you've nailed the practical use of the software you've pretty much got 50% in the final exam. PLEASE LEARN TO use the software, most people don't even bother to practise, but you do get an analysis skill out of it.

Obviously this isn't the most fun marketing subject, because if you thought that you would be majoring in Stats not marketing. However it is a good foundation of knowledge into this area. Definitely easier if you have studied Stats or BUSS1020 before. The big group assignment was very poorly explained! You need to hassle to tutor a fair bit while doing it.

I studied Marketing Research in Semester 1 2015. I found the subject to be an even mix of theory and practise. The theory was taught clearly and efficiently by the lecturer; Jeffrey, and was complemented each week by tutorial activities. The tutor, Evelyn, was incredibly helpful, and clearly passionate. The project, "Woolworths Online Fresh Grocery insights", unlike other subjects which attempt to recreate a real life scenario, actually provided a real life market research project. With specific deliverables to be presented to Woolworths at the end of the Semester (if you got good grades), the project created a real life, 'on the job' experience. It opened my eyes to the importance of the research process, and the creativity involved in interpretation, always with the goal of presenting findings to the company at the finish. As the project runs throughout the whole semester, and encapsulates both qualitative and quantitative collection and analysis, it allowed for an acute as well as holistic understanding of the process from start to finish. This made presenting to Woolworths marketing managers not only a great experience in presenting, but a comfortable task, as I felt like an expert on the topic.

SO BORING. Most boring, dry marketing subject to exist. Everything revolves around excel. Mid semester exam is extremely difficult (even though it shouldn't be because content is relatively straight forward). Assignment was stupid. Different groups have to fight for what they want to do (observation, focus group, or surveys). Focus group was the easiest, all you have to do is sit there and tally people. Surveys which is what our group did was suppose to be easy, but the tutor marked us extremely hard and said our survey was shit because too many detailed questions. Too bad this is a core marketing subject, because it sucks.
