Best way to study this unit, is to purchase a set of revision notes from previous years and go through the key topics. ONLY do this subject if it's a compulsory as it's an absolutely terrible course. Actually I don't even want to give a start this year It's a really awful course!

I found it good for essay prep and proper research

Nothing interesting here guys. The assessments are terrible, the lecturers are boring...the whole staff teaching this course seems really pessimistic.

2/10, would not recommend. Seriously though, as others have said, only take this unit if it's compulsory! While the lectures are nicely structured, the content itself feels stretched. Too many topics are covered with little depth for further study. Concerning tutorials, expect a lot of casual discussion and essay writing with ACAR. Do not expect the standard Q&A type homework. The assignments are marked quite strictly too, with ambiguous marking schemes. It's the REAL killer here, not the final exam, which is alright but pretty lengthy (~ 3 hrs). And always. Always. Use ACAR.

final exam mark is based on 50%of luck and 50% of knowledge

Compulsory subject for commerce, would not recommend taking it as an elective. It is very boring and you learn nothing of substance/value. Tutorials are the only enjoyable part as they are interactive and my tutor in particular was really lovely.

This an introduction to the business school, a VERY brief insight into all areas of commerce and you familiarise yourself with business school referencing. If you have strong English skills you will be fine. Overall,a good and friendly introduction to university and the business school.

I too agree with some of the posters on here that the assessment structure leaves a little to be desired. I don't care so much about the harsh marking criteria but surely there must be some sort of mark boosters (e.g quizzes weekly) integrated in there somewhere. It seems like one of those units where the university is trying to 'scare' students into what studying at Business School is like. It's a core unit and having taken a few business units at other universities before, I think there should be more leeway towards the students. However, the tutorials were interesting and made up for the rather dull text book (which we hardly touched). Best way to study this unit, is to purchase a set of revision notes from previous years and go through the key topics. 5 of the questions will be from the revision notes, the question is which one it will be? (Note the exam hints given in Week 13 don't necessarily mean the topic will be in the exam)
