The content definitely wasn’t my cup of tea with an abnormal amount of MRI, TMS, neuroimaging stuff and weirdly not a lot of biology considering the subject name (coming from a biomed student). But if youre confident in your essay writing skills (and I mean H1 confident), this subject is an easy WAM booster because the lab report is worth a lot. I also suck ass at exams, but since it was all MCQ, it was also very straightforward (94%!). I ended up with a score in the 90s, but be warned, you HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK FOR ESSAYS/LAB REPORTS! The tutors and coordinators were all so lovely (!!), but there were marking delays.

This subject isn't that great. Judging by group chats/general chatter, more people loathe this subject than like it. Cons: The first two modules (Bode and Jason Forte's Modules) were a drag. Bode's lectures (esp. the 1st fMRI +EEG lectures) were difficult to understand, and you need to rewatch the lectures to understand it well. Pay attention to the spatial/temporal resolutions of each technique. Jason's section focused excessively on visual neuroscience (eg: LGN, V1, understanding how your brain understands the object, V4, on-off surround cell structures, familiarity etc), and its a lot of memory/rote learning. Stats lectures (done by Jun, the co-ordinator) were okay, but mostly irrelevant to the lab report. All the aforementioned modules, especially Bode's, had really long REQUIRED readings. Eg: for week 1 we were told to read ~70 pages (REQUIRED), and it was irrelevant to the lecture content! Lab reports were marked harshly (av. 26/40, H3), but the lab report content itself is understandable (easier to write than the Dev psych report!). Pros: The saving grace of this subject was Olivia's section about different neurotransmitters and their relationship to things like illicit drugs, depression, rewards etc. She actually explained things well. The Exam was easy as it was all MCQ and open book. The quizzes were a free 15% since you can redo them as many times as you want. Still, don't be decieved: this subject has very little actual "biology" in it and is a drag, although not too bad to score in.

I think that all the lecturers in this subject are incredibly knowledgeable and the content isn't too bad, however for the first section you do (the neural imaging/research) is quite challenging especially with the questions asked in the exam. Expect really specific questions or out-of left field questions in the exam. However, you get a free 15% from the quizzes which can mitigate a not so great lab report score (though they did mark this late and harshly), but the exam is multiple choice so I found it okay. Overall, this subject is great but I also did think the tutorials were a bit boring/useless, but there is an attendance hurdle so...

This subject was pretty good, the lecture content was challenging but interesting most of the time, but it did require you to have a working understanding of neurology and psychology to begin with. It's pretty well organised and the tutorials were really helpful for the assignment, and the staff are all really lovely and very obviously very knowledgeable. Olivia and Stephan in particular, I actually looked forward to watching their lectures. I wouldn't take this as an elective or a WAM booster though, although the exam is multiple choice, the lab report is very hard to do well in, the top marks were low H1s and the average was 68%.

Lecture content is great, challenging but if you watch them carefully then it's not too bad (coming from an Arts student). The thing that annoyed me the most is the coordination. It is literally built on false promises - late marks release for lab report TWICE (literally during exam period so students barely have time to seek remarking if needed) and late release of quiz answers for exam revision. Would have been a tolerable subject if it's not so messy.

Surprisingly great! I dreaded this subject, but actually found it very engaging. Lectures on memory were boring to me but other than that I really enjoyed all the topics. Each lecturer is so enthusiastic about their topic which definitely helps! Definitely some tricky concepts in there but you can absolutely wrap your head around them with a little time and effort. Tutorials were a bit useless but that was to be expected when it comes to level 2 psych subjects. Assignment was very straightforward, as was the exam.

Actually a really great subject- the lecturers are fantastic and the subject is run very very well. I've never taken such a well coordinated subject with the LMS organised in such an accessible way. You are kept extremely in the loop with everything and it's clear that the coordinators really care about you doing well. However, the only reason I gave this 4 stars is because my tutorial experience did not meet the standard of the rest of this subject. This may be because I got unlucky with my tutor, but he was seriously underprepared for each tutorial and often said that he hadn't read the tutorial preparation properly when we asked him questions. He offered virtually no useful help on the assignment/assessment and always just said 'refer to the handouts' without giving any concrete/specific answer to our queries. I understand that tutors aren't supposed to help you with your assignment, but the questions asked were broad enough for them to give at least some sort of guidance. This was really frustrating as it greatly magnified the hours I spent on the 1500 word assignment finding my own way through everything for the first time like APA style & how to just basically write a lab report. Not only this, he was a harsh marker! Overall though, because of the MCQ exam, I still came out with a pretty strong score.

Great subject - well run, interesting topics and awesome lecturers. I was worried about this subject coming from an Arts background, but the lecturers explain everything in such a clear and interesting way. I was challenged, but never overwhelmed. My tutor was great and really wanted to make sure we did as well as possible on the assessments. Ensure you do as many practice questions as possible in preparation for the final exam.

Genuinely loved this subject. Content was challenging but interesting and stimulating. My tutor was fantastic and all lectures were delivered to a high quality. Exam is all multiple choice which is amazing!

A highlight of the major. Dr. Patrick Goodbourne's presentations on Behavioral Genetics were especially eye-opening! I would recommend this one as a breadth subject if you are interested in both the biological and psychological...
