Great content, but I wouldn’t say that it’s entirely worth paying for. It was a bit disorganised, and the assessments were what really made me less motivated. Essay topics were very limited, and even if you were to ask a question regarding some of the questions, the subject coordinator is the only one who knows about it, not the tutors. So basically, you can mostly only ask the coordinator.

Horrible subject, so random and disorganised, glad that 2020 is the last year this subject is being given!

Content seemed jumbled and unorganised with only small sections seeming relevant or interesting. Appeared to be based on common knowledge or common sense rather than academia and felt like a a high school level course. The lectures felt out of order and hence the low rating despite the conversations in tutorials being interesting. Overall very vague

Really hated this class, easily my least favourite subject, really wish I chose a different atta foundation subject. I found the lectures to be very confusing and most of the time I had no idea what was going on. Also I felt much of the content was irrelevant and unorganised. My tutor was TERRIBLE, we literally never spoke about the content, it was always so off topic. So unorganised. However the assignments weren’t too hard.

Great introduction to arts subjects in general and academic writing but I personally found some of the content unnecessary and uninteresting. Engaging lectures and tutorials as well as useful workshops. Made some amazing friends during the tutorial discussions but apart from that, I finished this subject feeling even more confused about my identity.

Giving 5*s to nullify the ratings from the person who clearly created two accounts to give this subject 1* twice

I absolutely hated this subject. Easily the worst subject I've done in Unimelb so far. Only took it because I had too. Readings were EXTREMELY dense, lecture content were very unorganised and irrelevant to course material... I could not understand half of the lectures (not because of my language capabilities but its just so irrelevant to the course...) Tutorials were okay but it really depends on your tutor. Some guest lecturers were good though. Overall I would not recommend this subject to anyone.

Absolutely hated this class. I did not enjoy it at all. The material is typically dense and quite useless and more often than not the ideas were things that I already knew so I was bored out of my mind. Strangely enough, I was also very confused because oftentimes, vocabulary (important ones) brought up in lectures were not explained clearly by lecturers. Personally, I found it to be a pointless subject and one I dreaded attending.

Knowledge that you'll use for the rest of your life. Also, friends who did Language and Power complained that it was dry as, so defs go for Identity!!

Really engaging and interesting subject. The readings are also interesting and not too boring. Easy H1 in my opinion and i didn't turn up to 60% of lectures. TIP: tackle the least likely essay questions people would do - less people to compare your work to!
