Abstract subject, but could be taught a bit better. Instructors make minor use of the helpful modelling tols that can help to visualise everything

Definitely abstract but you can definitely do well if you put in the work. I really enjoyed part of the coursework was on MATLAB (although MATLAB has its own flaws :///). The content can seem a bit dry until you get to eigenvectors though.

Many describe this unit as "abstract" and I couldnt agree more. But very H1able and probably the easiest lvl1 mathj unit for most and the hardest for the rest of the students. Come to EVERY tute and lab class and understand every concept (easier said than done) and H1 is around the corner. However I would go as far to say it is ESSENTIAL for Bcom (eco/finance). This bc it turns up in metrics, DS, Inv, computional econ, mathematical econ (and even micro lvl2/3 to some degree). I urge any "on the fence" bcom student to go and give a good try!! It also teaches MATLAB so thats pretty neat.

Took the subject during Summer 2020. Probably the best math subject I've taken so far. Concepts are really interesting. Everything connects really neatly throughout the course. Theories are elegant and practical despite being abstract. Like all math subjects, practice is key - you'll be more than fine if you consistently put in the effort.

At the time, I didn't particularly enjoy this subject because I didn't see why any of the material would be useful later on. Man, was I wrong! The stuff on eigenvectors/eigenvalues of matrices is super useful for quantum mechanics, and even though it can be done with a computer, it's nice to understand what's going on behind the scenes. The linear regression material, once again, can be done by a computer, but it's nice to understand it, particularly when teaching students to draw lines of best fit. (P.S. I took this subject in semester 1, 2012, but that doesn't appear in the drop-down menu, so I'll select semester 1, 2017, which is the oldest option available.)

Pretty good maths subject, definitely prefer it over calculus. The calculations are easy but the concepts can be a bit abstract sometimes so itโs good to not hold on too tightly to what you think you know about maths. My lecturer Alex Ghitza was absolutely amazing, funny guy and his pure hatred for the lecture slides were the most iconic thing all semester.

Linear Algebra has to be one of the easiest subjects that i've done so far in uni! It was much more easier than calculus 2 in the sense that the questions from the assignments, tutesheets and final exam were pretty straightforward, given you get a good understanding of the topics being taught as the concepts are a bit abstract at times (by the time it gets to vector spaces that is). My lecturer/coordinator for the subject Dr. Christine Mangelsdorf was amazing and made the concepts and final exam so much easier. Just keep up to date with the tutesheets and problem booklet and you should be good for the exam!

very fun. personally, did not enjoy the the practical/lab bit but the content and the 4pm lecturer was really good. Tutes were very helpful too.

Nothing bad to say about this subject. Its extremely well taught and well structured. My lecturer (Christine Mangelsdorf) was fantastic! She explained everything clearly, I never felt super lost or behind. I found the content more interesting than calc1/2. If you have to do math for a computing major, definitely do linear algebra.
