Reviews

I really enjoyed the content of this subject. Although it is hard and content heavy - MSTs averaged in the 60s%. Definitely recommend finding some people to study with - something i didnt do. But although hard, i did enjoy learning content of this subject. maybe wouldn't recommend as an elective, probably only do this is youre doing immunology major or as a subject in microbiology or other related majors

I loved this subject! The lecturers and coordinators are very helpful and provide great case study examples to test the concepts. Jose is one of the most engaging lecturers that I have had. Many people failed the first MST so I wouldn’t do this subject if you are not passionate about immunology. If you keep up to date with lectures each week and discuss the concepts with friends this challenging subject will be enjoyable.

One of the most interesting subjects I've taken at uni to date, but also one of the most challenging. Quite a big step up compared to second year subjects and it really 'unpacks' all the individual components of the immune system with a lot of detail. It's definitely not easy and takes quite a lot of effort to get good marks, but ultimately worth it because of how much knowledge you'll gain coming out of it. Coordination of the subject is pretty faultless really, the microbiology and immunology department is incredibly organised and both Dan and Odilia are amazing as coordinators. Plenty of revision sessions after each of the modules and feedback quizzes, which helps to break up the content to a slightly more manageable level. In short: very interesting content but do not underestimate difficulty.

This was the bane of my existence. I didn't think I could ever experience misery like this. Very interesting content but varying levels of excellence in the lecturers (from god-like (Jose) to what-are-you-even-teaching-us (Sammy)) and convoluted and cruel assessment questions (average for mst 1 was 56%) that leave me depressed and hopeless. Put me off any other MIIM subjects, forever. Just why? Theres hard, and then there's PrInCiPleS of immunology.

The cohort average mark for the first MST is 57.5%. The second MST cohort average mark is 67%. MSTs and final exam will warrant extensive experience in dealing with SAQs and LAQs. Interesting subject but the most difficult subject I have took in my whole degree.

Love-hate relationship with the subject during the semester but it really does tease apart all the 'basics' you need to know. It is content-heavy and the MSTs were a little challenging but I am so glad I took it. It also sets you up really well for applied immunology, so if you got through this subject ok and have an extra subject spot I highly recommend you take that as well.

Very interesting and heavy content but totally doable if you keep up with the work. Not easy but the constant change up in lecturers is refreshing

Great foundation subject for an immunology major! It is a content-heavy subject and requires pro-active learning. The MSTs and exam are quite fair and doable, given that there is conceptual clarity. The subject was coordinated well and lecture delivery was good too.

Great subject. The coursework is well structured, interesting and delivered by a fantastic teaching team. Assessment is not impossible but can be tricky. You need to have a good grasp of the content because the tests and exam really get you thinking beyond mere factual recall. If you're up for the challenge and can put in the effort you'll find the subject very rewarding.

Extremely in depth. Appreciate the medical twist.
