The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Building 248) is located at 792 Elizabeth St. This building is a joint venture between The University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital combining research, teaching and public health initiatives to better understand the diagnosis, treatment and care of infectious diseases and the immune system. The institute was named after Peter Doherty who received the 1996 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in infection and immunity.
