Reviews

A very underrated subject which is extremely useful & applicable in the work place.

This subject was pointless if you know how to communicate like a normal human being. The lectures are pretty useless after the quizzes, even before then you could probably just read the slides. Despite the content being fairly easy, they mark assignments very harshly, making it hard to get a good grade.

Interesting unit, however assessments are heavily weighted so if you don't do well in one it makes it very difficult to achieve well. Odd that theres no 'second chance' opportunities in a first year unit. Other than that, the unit was fun.

I didn't enjoy this subject as much although some aspects were quite interesting. They are very strict with submission of assignments and marking. My video for one assignment uploaded to youtube well before the due date but there was an error on the link and did not upload via Turnitin. I was given a zero for this part of the assignment even though evidence showed it had been completed before the due date. Moral of the story: check and re-check your submission to make sure it has been received!

Perhaps one of my favourite subjects. I loved the assessments and the interesting content.

Enjoyed listening to the lectures and reading but hated the assessments. Too many people in class and the marking system is not very fair.

The textbook is actually quite an interesting read and the skills learnt can be applied to many areas of ones life, both professionally and personally. I suggest watching the lectures online, as these can easily be listened to at 1.7 speed, saving you some time. The lecturer is lovely, just a little slow to get to the point on some areas - for me personally. The tutor I had made the workshop experience really disappointing, frustrating etc. For someone teaching communication skills, she was not very good at it.

Good for learning vital techniques for counselling clients in a psychology setting. Hint* you cannot get away with buying the older text book. The author/subject coordinator has ensured that there are enough changes made from the previous edition that you cannot escape from either buying, or borrowing it.
