Description

This subject will enable students to explore an area of nursing specialty in greater detail. This elective focuses on paediatric nursing and consider this from a variety of clinical settings including critical care, acute care and the primary health care. The subject introduces the student to the application of the nursing process when caring for infants, children and adolescents. Students will be introduced to the challenges of paediatric nursing with an emphasis on growth and development, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of the nurse and how these affect practice across age groups. From a theoretical perspective, students will examine the critical and clinical situation of the care in alignment with the current social and other health issues relating to infants, children and adolescents. Practically, students will build on their existing knowledge to further develop their understanding of evidence-based interventions to promote optimal wellbeing and development of the family unit.
