H1 Comprehensive Exam Notes for Principles of Public Law - NEW COURSE STRUCTURE
Subject notes for UniMelb LAWS50024
Description
These notes are what I took into the exam which formed the basis of my response to the hypotheticals. I received a mark of 82 for that exam. These notes have been colour coded and organized for your convenience - I have what I wrote exactly in some areas which helped solidify my understanding and saved a lot of time in the exam (you can then reformulate this to your own words). I have also added hypo structures which were incredibly useful for my understanding of how to answer questions. Notably the PPL course structure was reorganized in Sem 1 2024 so it's essential to have updated and well structured set of notes. The PPL exam requires you to link certain topics together throughout the course and I have set out several examples of how I did this (eg. linking treaty interpreation and customary international law, federalism and responsible gov and the judiciary). Topics covered include: -The state and public law -Territory and sovereignty in the Australian context -The acquisition of independence in the Australian context -The Commonwealth Constitution -The people -Parliaments and representative democracy -Responsible government -The Executive -Delegated legislation and extraterritoriality -The judiciary -Federalism -The rule of law -Sources of public international law: customary international law and the law of treaties -The organs of the United Nations -Human rights under international law -The protection of rights in Australia -Treaty-making and implementation in Australia
