Extensive notes covering all lecture material and key learning outcomes including: - Understanding the design principles underpinning housing shelter – structure, enclosure, services; - Understanding and interpreting residential documentation including architectural, construction and shop drawings; - Understanding and using the Building Code of Australia and key Australian Standards to design housing elements such as concrete slabs, floors, walls and roof systems; - Understanding the roles of the various actors in housing production, clients, builders, sub-contractors, building inspectors, product manufactures; - Linking basic structural design concepts with current residential construction practices; - Identifying design and construction solutions on building sites through critical observation; - Communicating design and construction solutions by means of sketches and drawings; - Identifying and evaluating alternative design and construction systems.
