This unit introduces all theoretical and basic background on social psychology. Cross-cultural perspective is an important aspect in later specialised social psychology units. The coursework required for this unit involves a lot of practice and keeping up with the materials so it is always prudent to have added tuition help i.e. tutors or mentors.

I loved this unit: I had the most amazing tutor (Aislinn), and the lectures, tutorials and learning content was so organised. The textbook content was heavy, although the lectures cover pretty much everything in them so I got away with skipping reading some weeks. There are weeks of assignment prep in tutorials and the practice questions for the exams pretty much set you up to pass. Very interesting if you are into learning about different cultures and the ways culture affects the mind.

There was a fair amount of content covered by this unit. I highly recommend just rocking up to the lectures, and keeping an ear out for important concepts/ideas, instead of struggling through the readings. The content was fairly interesting, but lots of it was covered pretty superficially. This is par for a first year psych unit though. They baby you through the exam, so if you do the practice questions properly you can expect to do well.

Tutorials were the best part of this Unit to be honest. I was lucky to have a younger tutor who was very lenient in letting us discuss topics in-depth which was really interesting, especially as it is a starter unit. I refused to attend lectures as I saw them as a waste of time as the lecturer read mostly from the slides and I was bored very quickly. Don't recommend not keeping up with the workload though as the content is large and full-on. Enjoyable unit however.
