Absolutely loved the content taught and how lectures were organised in the unit, however the labs were pretty full on and the lab reports were harshly marked. I found it hard to do well in this unit because the marking on essays and lab reports seemed so subjective and dependent on the TA you got. The exam was horrible, with an entire section that was dedicated to lab content + essay and multiple choice and it was very difficult to complete it to time.

Overall, a great unit if you love studying IMM to a molecular level. The alternating pracs an tutes provide a nice blend to experiences in the lab and group learning.

While the content was very interesting, I felt there was too much information packed into one semester, particularly given the poor structuring of topics, and (as mentioned below) the Moodle page was terribly organised. Frank (while a legend) has the tendency to ramble on, meaning that the ends of lectures get rushed and slides skipped, which can make things hard to follow. The lectures themselves often rely heavily on diagrams with few explanations in text - while I know this is great for some people, I'm more of a "verbal thinker" or whatever, and felt overwhelmed at some points due to this teaching style. Everything seemed just a little bit more difficult than it should've been because of the way things were organised.

I found this unit really interesting and a good challenge. the teaching methods were really helpful and, however, the organisation, particularly of the moodle page was abhorrent. From publishing all our midsem marks in a pdf identified by student number (which you can search by student so our marks were not confidential at all), to not publishing any of our grades online because they simply chose not to use gradebook (meaning that all grades were only stored on the paper assessments themselves). There was also an "effective learning" section on our moodle page which was not a part of our curriculum which would have been fine except that completing certain parts of this "optional" material was required to access lecture recordings online. Finally, the method that the IMM2011 coordinators used to upload the lecture recordings online made it impossible to download the lectures, which was a real pain for people with intermittent access to a good internet connection, especially when monash provides a really good service for lecture recording uploads which does allow students to download. Despite the organisation pitfalls there are a lot of really helpful resources provided by the coordinators of this unit

This unit is quite challenging as well as interesting. In terms of content there is quite a lot to cover in one semester and one can feel overwhelmed if they are not up to date with the lectures/work. However, if you do study and remain on top of the work, then it becomes vey rewarding! The content is a lot, but this year they have improved a lot on its organisation so yes the lectures are well explained and presented. The lecturers are wonderful (especially Prof. Mark Wright) and always there to help. So if you are interested to do some hard core science and like to be challenged then definitely do this unit.

This subject really covered and helped with further immunology units but it was a lot of information to pack into one semester. I was often overwhelmed, upset and felt behind because of the amount of pathways and cells we had to learn but it is essential to know this material before you move on to other IMM units. The information is really interesting though
