Reviews

This unit covers pretty much all foundational knowledge for artificial intelligence, most of it being fundamental computer science topics; search algorithms, knowledge representation (predicate and FO logic), bayesian networks and a bit of machine learning near the end to spice things up. Essentially the very foundations you need to understand AI are covered here. However, the unit is not great in its execution. Main issue were the assignments; they are all theory based, with absolutely no implementation. This is where AI is fun, actually building and creating agents. While programming is a pre-req, there is absolutely no programming done or implementation of anything. While it's understandable that these topics need to be covered in order to be able to do further units, the assessments are just handled so poorly. In contrast, a similar subject COMP30024 at UniMelb covers the same material from the same textbook, but is MUCH more engaging with practical assignments. The teaching team are good and approachable, but this needs a bit of a soft revamp.
