Lecturers are quite good and the labs are fun. If you have done year 12 Chem then most of the content you will have already learnt, it just gets built upon. Structuring of assessments is fair and achievable but need to do a lot of reading to ensure you are up to date and are able to pass. Only 30% hurdle on final exam so as long as you do alright on the labs and all of the quizzes you will be fine.

easy unit if you've done year 12 chem, very achievable

Having never done Chemistry before this unit was quite challenging but the lecturers (particularly Chris and Kellie) were very clear and engaging in their delivery. The labs were a lot of fun and really helped cement my understanding of the content even though I probably had to do more extra reading than others completing the unit. CHM1011 inspired me to challenge myself in CHM1022.

EASIEST UNIT EVER if you have prior knowledge from VCE otherwise some effort has to be put in; especially for the second half of the semester.

Do not do this subject if you have had little to no basic chemistry experience. They advertise the class as suitable for beginners, but it is not. I foolishly did this subject with no high school chem knowledge, and came home crying after nearly every lab. Its very difficult, and is a quick paced subject meaning you have very little time to catch up. Would not recommend.

well organised and well taught

Really interesting subject and good lecturers for most of the time, but quite difficult if you have little/no chemistry knowledge especially the lab reports.

Lots of physics related chemistry, very difficult for someone who had never done chemistry before. Most of the lecturers are great but a few are really hard to understand and honestly terrible, so if you get those lectuers I suggest not even bothering with your own lecture time and attending a different stream. Probably important to do all of the reading as well as extra worksheets provided on MOODLE and in the textbook

A lot of basic chemistry is assumed, especially in the laboratory. If you didn't do VCE chemistry then be prepared to put in 50% more effort than anyone who did do VCE chemistry.
